<span style="font-family: Times,"Times New Roman",serif;">Homemade Goatmilk Soap!

A friend of mine makes soap and sells it. I asked her to show me how, and she did! WOW! She also excplained how the chemical process of the fats and lye work to make amazing good for your skin soap.

First I want to mention my history with home made soap. I was raised in an Amish community. I loved it, and still do! There are a couple of negatives about living in Amishville...Outhouses, body odor, and stinky, nasty, no suds home made lye soap! Little did I know that it matters what fats you use, fragrances can be added, and it is actually GOOD for your skin. I learned that in the chemical process, glycerin is formed. In commercial soap it is removed and added to lotions, etc...But in homemade soap it remains. Cool Huh?!?!? It moisturizes your skin so nice! Plus, depending on the oil you use, you can have a nice smooth thick lather! It cleans well and smells GOOD!

So...Moriah and I tried it! It is lovely! I used palm, coconut, and olive oil as my fats. I used goat milk as the base, fragrance, and lye. For 1/2 the batch I also added coffee for a little added exfoliation! One batch made enough for months...

So, I learned my lesson! :) And I can't wait to make another batch!

So basicly every day I had a fruit smoothie for breakfast.

Salad or the like for lunch, and meat and veggies for supper. No grains, sugars, rice, pasta, etc..

After a week I didn't feel any different, but I could tell I was digesting things differently.

This was a very gentle cleanse...no "running to the bathroom" moments, etc..It was so nice, that I would like to do it twice a year, as maintenance! Couldn't hurt right???

Anyway...that was my journey!

Enjoy!

The Bailey Familyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04009619447644013822noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8681847032900138090.post-44372781084153201862013-06-16T06:12:00.000-07:002013-06-16T19:08:17.823-07:00My Cleanse....Long Story...Short...

A couple months ago I hurt my back. Not really my back I guess, more in the area of my left butt or hip. So...after I couldn't do anymore to make it heal I went to the Chiropractor. (Dr. Twist in Hohenwald...he's great) He figured it was the tendon that connects the hip/femur to my pelvis was inflamed. Plan of action??? Chiro twice a week, no running for 2 weeks, no crossing my legs, sit straight, etc...It is getting better.

So...Since I am not running for 2 weeks I thought I might as well do the cleanse I have been wanting to do for a year or so. I haven't made the time because with running I have to be careful of what I eat, carbs, etc...

So the first week I just went Gluten Free. It was pretty easy since I have been doing that for 7 years with Jacob. After a week I feel no difference though. Could be that we had company all week, so all the cooking and cleaning makes me more tired. Could be...

Now, the 2nd week has arrived and I am getting more strict...No sugar, flour, white potatoes, dairy, etc...Just veggies, meat, fruit, seeds and nuts.

Dr. Axe suggested this cleanse. It is a 7 day cleanse.

Day 1:
Mouth Rinse
3 pills
Breakfast: Smoothie (coconut milk, mixed frozen berries, flax seed meal, banana, dates)

Lunch: 3 pillls, Salad (romaine, spinach, tomatoes, cucumbers, grapes, carrots) & grilled chicken with fresh lemon juice and olive oil.

Snack: Banana and raw almonds

Supper: Sauteed green beans, pulled smoked pork, guacamole, and an orange

One hour before bed: 2 scoops of fiber powder.

So that was day 1! Along with 70+ ounces of water....

Moriah needed a couple pairs of shorts, Isaac needed jeans and shoes, and WE needed groceries! So to Nashville we went! We went to Trader Joe's first, unfortunately since it was our 1st stop, we couldn't get any perishable items. But we got some other things, including our favorite coffee! If you haven't been to this store, and you live close to one...GO! It is worth it. From there we headed to Franklin w/ a stop in Hobby Lobby to get fabric for 2 girls and 2 boys bags, just to have on hand! :) Then Goodwill. Moriah and Isaac don't like Goodwill, they don't like digging through their sizes, etc...Shiloh, Bethany, and I love it. We walked out of there with 3 pairs of pants for Jacob, 2 skirts for Moriah (long denim ones) 1 pair of Levi's for Isaac, a skirt for Shiloh, and a book, all for $23.00. Kohls was next...we ALL love Kohls! So armed with my 20% off EVERYTHING coupon and an additional 5.00 off your total we went shopping...Moriah got a cute long skirt with a matching shirt for an upcoming wedding, Isaac got 2 pair of Levi's for 9.60 a pair...brand new people, plus 20% off! I got a neon running jacket for fall for 20.00, plus some other odds and ends. The only thing we couldn't find is shoes for Isaac. He is in a strange place between boys and men's sizes and styles. Sam's Club then Kroger were next. 400.00 later we are home from a successful day in Nashville. All is quiet b/c the children are at VBS, and Steve is at a meeting, everything is put away, BLT makings are on the counter, and the washing machine is running. It was a good Monday! The Bailey Familyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04009619447644013822noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8681847032900138090.post-81098197960362805852012-06-15T18:54:00.000-07:002012-06-15T18:55:39.312-07:00Friday evening quietness! This week is VBS at the Mennonite church, which happens to be just at the end of our driveway. The children are loving the interaction, the singing, the Bible memory verses, the games, you name it! It started on Wednesday, the day I work at the local Ambulance service. The 2nd night was Thursday, which I had to work as well b/c someone had to leave early. So tonight, Friday night, is the first night that I have gotten to sit and enjoy peace and quiet w/ my honey...guess what we are doing??? He is on one sofa with his iPad, and I am on the other sofa with my laptop (and a small bowl of Chocolate Chips, it was the only chocolate in the house...WAS) and playing Words with Friends!!! We love it! I guess this is what old married couples of 16 years do! Oh and another awesome thing is Pandora!!! We can listen to some amazing Christian music while playing!

Just being honest~
Yippee Skippee!!! School is finished and the schedule for the last 9 1/2 months is relaxed. Today Bethany is at work with her daddy, Shiloh is spending the day with her friend Anne, and my other 3 are hard at a game of Monopoly! It is hard for me, who is very schedule minded, to spend a couple months relaxing...letting the children be CHILDREN, and not making them pick up a book to read or letters to write, or problems to solve. But, none the less, it is good for them and me. My house stays much cleaner in the summer, with "nothing else to do" the chore list gets done everyday, well not everyday...today it looks close to a tornado met earthquake in here, but by the time Steve Bailey comes home it will be picked up, cleaned, and smelling like fresh Zucchini bread, Sourdough bread, and the amazing supper Moriah is making!

Just a little musing and honestly from me!

The Bailey Familyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04009619447644013822noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8681847032900138090.post-28452745965249763292012-05-14T05:41:00.000-07:002012-05-14T05:41:26.594-07:00Our life...Well another year has come and gone...No, it isn't New Year, it is the end of our school year! YEAH!!! I just wrapped up 8th, 7th, 6th, 4th, and 2nd grades once again. Next year I will have a high schooler! Am I really old enough to have a child in high school? I have done Rod & Staff, an anabaptist, simple curriculum up until now. Next school year however brings on a change...ABEKA. I am kinda scared actually, but I know we can do it with the help of the Lord, my husband, and teachers manuals! Since Rod & Staff is limited in high school, we are starting Abeka for 9th grade. 9th GRADE...YIKES! She will be going off to college soon! :( So now, let's start our summer of reading, (we read A LOT during the summer months) swimming, piano (yes, we up our piano practice during the summer too) and relaxing!

Thought I would share with you the joy of home schooling and the joy of summer break!

Continually Blessed~The Bailey Familyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04009619447644013822noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8681847032900138090.post-67559142047452234382012-02-13T08:59:00.000-08:002012-02-13T11:09:20.233-08:00Running...I am going to post on running...again! I know, I know, if you follow me on Facebook you must think that all my posts are about running, which is mostly true. I do lots of other things besides run...I cook, I school the children, I clean, do laundry, read, visit with friends, work 1 day a week, etc. But none-the-less, I want to share something with you....

As a teen-ager I was "in shape". We walked a lot, played volleyball a lot, I worked construction, etc...so I wasn't necessarily fat, or out of shape but I hated cardio. I despised running, swimming hard, 2 on 2 volleyball, etc...anything that caused my heart and lungs to overwork. Steve on the other hand is a runner. He ran all through high-school, competitively and for fun. At some point he even ran a 4.30 minute mile...crazy man! He ran before we were married, so then afterwards he ran as well. I tried running with him for a couple weeks...in Wisconsin...in the winter, it was horrible. It just confirmed that I was not a runner at all. Hated it actually...with a passion. :) Steve continued off and on through out 15+ years together.

6 months ago, my daughter Shiloh wanted to run in the Woman's Half Marathon 5K in Nashville for her birthday. You know that story. (if not, you can read my blog about that) And after 6 months I am still running. I wanted to write to encourage you, if you haven't run, if you hate running, or you're just a beginner, that you CAN run. In 6 shorts months I have worked up to running 7 miles, and after only running 8 months I plan on running my 1st 1/2 marathon. I can't believe it! Sometimes when I am out there running I can't believe it is even me...it is like 2 different people. I am the same person I was 6 months ago, but I am different too. For someone who hated running, to actually be out there enjoying it is amazing to me.

Because of our schedules Steve and I don't run together very often. He likes running early in the morning before work, in the dark. I usually wait until afternoon. But even though we don't run together it is a bond we share, and I am really enjoying that. Last Sunday was my "distance" day...I had to run at least 6 miles. So I mapped it out, it was warmer so Steve and I ran together. We ran 6.6 miles in 1:06 together...once in awhile he would get pretty far ahead of me, because I have to slow down going up hills and he doesn't, but he would then circle back and run with me. So, he probably ran closer to 7 miles that day. It was nice...very nice. As we were coming down the home stretch Steve said "I can't believe you are out here running for an hour at a time, I am proud of you." That made my sore legs worth it! :)

Here is my story...You too can do it!!! I would GLADLY run with any of you, slow, fast, long, or short...it is nice to run with someone. I am still learning too. I am reading a great book called ChiRunning...very informative, a MUST read for any stage of runner, and I am also learning to pace myself. I tended to run too fast, then I couldn't compensate and I would have to walk. Now, I can run 4 miles without walking at all.

Hope this encouraged you, or at least entertained you! :)

So, Steve and I, along with 3 other couples attended a marriage conference this past weekend. Let me start at the beginning. A couple months ago we were visiting my cousin in Memphis. While we were there we mentioned a "disagreement" that we had. He suggested a book called "Love and Respect." So we borrowed it, and I started reading it right away. When I had time I decided to look up the ministry. I almost always do this! I would hate to follow the advice of someone, only to find out he has been married 3 times and has 2 children in jail. So he looked honest, been married once, has 3 children and so I finished the book. I also read some articles online. At some point I clicked on "conferences" and low and behold he was coming to Nashville area...in about a month! I was so very excited. It was like God was moving right in my midst, which I know He always does, but I don't always see it. Anyway...
So I contacted my 2 cousins, their wives and my sister..."Lets make a weekend out of it!" So a hotel was booked, registration was made, and let the countdown begin. In the mean time I had finished the book and Steve had started it. The more he read the more he understood, and the more he looked forward to the conference as well.
Okay, so long story short...We all learned an amazing amount...I am actually still processing it all. I laughed (a lot) and I cried, I grimaced (knowing that I had screwed up) and I smiled (with a wink) at Steve knowing he was grimacing as well! :) We learned that men NEED respect like we ladies NEED love...especially during conflict. The bottom line though, and what touched my heart the most is that we are COMMANDED to respect our husbands. By whom you ask??? God himself, in his word. Eph. 5:33 says "Nevertheless let every one of you in particular so love his wife even as himself; and the wife see that she reverence her husband." Why would God our creator tell us to reverence our husbands if we did it naturally? We don't, it goes against our nature of who we are. The same thing goes for husbands. God is telling me to reverence Steve, it doesn't however tell me when...so I must assume it is ALL THE TIME. Not just when he treats me well, does what I want him too, I am in a good mood, etc... I reverence Steve because it is what I was told to do. PERIOD! As I reverence Christ my respect will overflow and fall on my husband. This is how God in his infinite wisdom has created us, so who am I to ask why??? If you ever have a chance to go to a conference, I highly recommend it! I will even watch your children while you go! It is life changing, and how Satan is attacking marriage these days, it is worth it! Help us to teach the next generation that enough is enough, we will stand for Christian marriage and NOT let Satan win the battle with the one we love. That commitment is forever, and in the scheme of eternity our little 80-100 years is so insignificant. Here's to a HAPPY MARRIAGE for you too!!!!!!! Just over a month ago my sister-in-law suggested I run in the women's 5K race in Nashville. I hadn't been running, I don't like running to be honest. Well Shiloh heard about it and that it was the day before her birthday and wanted to run in it. I talked to Steve, and we decided we would go ahead and sign up and start training. 4-5 weeks before our first race we started training. Neither of us had ever run any distance before, let alone 3 miles! So we started out running/walking 1 mile, then 1.5, then 2, etc...After we got the distance down, we started walking less and running more. Pretty soon we got down to 36 minutes, which I was SUPER pleased about! That is 3 12 minute miles...incredible for us I thought! But we had a week to go before our race and so we kept on training. We trained 5 days a week...We both got new shoes during this time too!

So the big day arrived! We got up at 5 in the morning, left by 5:20 and headed to Nashville! Shiloh was so excited! I was nervous! I don't really know why seeing as though I knew I could finish, but I was sick to my stomach! I couldn't believe it! The weather when we arrived was wonderful!!! High 60's and the sun hadn't risen yet. There were just over 600 ladies running in the 5K along with Shiloh, Annapurna, Lori, and I.

Just starting!

So off we went. We ran the first few blocks and part way up the first hill. We walked some, but not as much as normal. What was totally unplanned was the fact that Shiloh would get her "game on" and want to run more! Several times she said "Come on Mom, Let's Run!" She got the competitive spirit! It was such a good run and a wonderful course! We had our names on our bibs...which was so nice to have people cheer you on by name! We ran 3.1 miles around downtown Nashville in 31.28 seconds...crossing the finish line in under our fastest time was such a wonderful feeling! Can't wait till our next one! =)
Seems like times just flies right on by! Between being a mom, wife, teacher, aunt, and EMT my life is so very full! Mommy-hood and Wife-hood are going well. The teacher part of me is going pretty well too, all things considered. I am teaching an 8th, 7th, 6th, 4th, and 2nd grader this year. They all know how to read, which is a HUGE accomplishment for a homeshool mom! The "aunt" in me has been kicked into high gear too. My brother, his wife, and 4 children moved into the area about 1 1/2 years ago and it has been a blast! I get to pick them up from school a couple times a month, we see them on Sundays, we have sleep-overs at Granny and Pops, etc...loving every minute of that! These next couple weeks I have my cousins 2 youngest while they go to Hawaii.(I know, I know, why can't I go to Hawaii and babysit them!?!?! It has crossed my mind but who would school my children?) They are 11 months and 3. It has been awhile since I have had "little ones" in my house for extended periods of time. It is an adjustment for all of us! Sequoia (the 3 year old) is doing wonderfully and loving the "country time" that my nieces and nephews have come to appreciate. The 11 month old however, is just getting used to having 9 people around the supper table! I still work Wednesdays and my husband, who is as amazing as always, does the school, cleaning, etc...and gives me this day to work "outside of the house." So that is what occupies my time and I am loving every minute of it! LIFE IS GOOD!The Bailey Familyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04009619447644013822noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8681847032900138090.post-9568502220603371832011-07-31T11:03:00.000-07:002011-07-31T11:03:26.684-07:00Jacob's Ear Fiasco...

Well it started out as a normal Wednesday morning at EMS. The medic and I were called out for a "lift assistance" of a older fellow who needed help. After he was safe and taken care of the secretary says to me "Don't worry but Jacob is at the station with a BB stuck in his left ear." WHAT??? He is at the station right now??? Yes, but don't worry everything is fine and the other medic is taking care of it, and your Dad is with him. I say okay, and after a series of other events I finally get back to the station. The medic has tried to suction it out but has not been able to get it. He has already called the ER to see who was on call and talked to the NP (Nurse Practitioner) that was on duty. She numbed his ear, and said she was going to try one time. She attempted once without success and suggested to take him to Vandy Peds (as we locals call it). So my wonderful Mom loads up Jacob, meets Steve at a gas station and heads to Nashville. Three different Doctors try to get the BB out. None were successful and Jacob was crying and in pain by this time. The BB is getting farther and farther in there. By the time they left the ER the BB was next to his ear drum. They gave him some antibiotic drops so it wouldn't get infected. Thursday morning I get home and call the ENT Dr. and make an appt. for Friday afternoon at 4:00 pm. That same evening the Dr. actually calls my home to verify that I had an appt., check to see if Jacob is in pain, and see if I had any questions. I was AMAZED!!! So Friday morning, Steve and I do some odd and ends around the house. We also get in touch with Steve's sister who happened to be coming to visit. She was on her way and would be here to watch the other 4 children. PRAISE GOD! Then we headed to Nashville about noon. Of course since Jacob was actually being put under he hasn't been able to eat anything since supper on Thursday and only clear liquids Friday morning. Being the kind parents that we are we didn't have the heart to stop and eat anything either! =)
But once we got to the waiting room there was our friend, Rob Bailey waiting to give Jacob a hug and a goodie bag! What a blessing his friendship is to us and our children. The love we share for Christ bonds us eternally!
All went amazingly well. I hope to NEVER have to go through anything like this again, but if I do it will be at Vanderbilt once again!

We arrived home to the other children, Steve's sister and niece. Jacob was SO happy to see Crystal...I think it made his day so much better!

So, that is the story of the BB in Jacob's ear....How did it get in there you ask??? He stuck it in there by accident...that is his story and he is sticking to it!

Thankful that even minor mishaps turn out fine.
We started out heading to Texas. We have friends there we have known for 16+ years. It was very hot and dry there. One day we saw 113 degrees on a bank sign! We celebrated 4th of July with them but it was so dry we couldn't have any fireworks! We enjoyed our time with the Mullens very much. We also took the children to Six Flags Hurricane Harbor while we were there. They loved that!

We all gathered around the flag pole, sang, prayed, and thanked God for allowing us to live in this fine Country. It was a great experience.

Here is the patriotic Bailey Family celebrating America's 235 Birthday! From there we headed to Kansas to visit more friends, the Belchers! Steve went to collage with Tim, so they have known each other awhile! =) In a near by town they have an awesome city park. They have a carousel for a nickel! That is .5 cents people! Steve had never been on one before...so we rode twice!

They also live on a farm so we got to help them work their cattle. They needed shots, wormed and tagged. It was a fun experience even though the children gave up on like the 5th cow! Steve and I stuck through till the end!
He was out there almost the entire time! He enjoyed watching, but this mommy wouldn't let him get to close.
From Kansas we headed to COLORADO! Our final destination and where we would spend the remaining week. After the HOT weather in Texas and Kansas, Colorado was beautiful! It was about 70-80 in the day and about 50 at night.
I would make breakfast for him, and his brother who lived by us. Well time passes and in just a few short years 5 children were born. When they were little and still breast feeding I would always see Steve in the morning before he went to work. Since I was a scheduled feeder they would be up at 6 to nurse. I would then get to say good-bye to Steve and get my "morning kiss" that I loved so much. Well soon babies turned into toddlers, toddlers into school-age persons and I don't get up in the morning anymore. I am NOT a morning person. I love laying in bed for 10-15 minutes before rolling out, going to the bathroom and brushing my teeth. On the rare occation that I do get up with Steve it is more of a "watch him eat breakfast, read the Bible, and head out the door" kind of thing. I have mentioned several times that I love it when he comes up to tell me bye and give me a kiss. I have NOT however nagged him at all! I know times flies for him in the morning too and he shoots out the door at 6:18 am! So needless to say when I felt someone tap me this morning and I rolled over (looking my best I am sure! *sarcasm*) and saw Steve there my heart just melted! "Have a good day Honey, Love you" *Kiss* As I was laying there listening to his Jeep pull away I was thinking that it is amazing to me that even after 15 years I still feel giddy with a "good morning kiss" I hope others are this blessed!
We have just finished our 7th year of homeschooling. I can't believe it! You know, I am convinced that homeschooling is not for sissy's, or undisciplined, or weak..it is hard work! It is an everyday job, that you don't get "paid" for. It is 4-6 hours, 5 days a week, for 160-180 days a year! Do I love homeschooling??? Some days. Some days it is hard and like pulling teeth! Do I think I am doing what is best for my family??? Absolutely! Wouldn't have it any other way! People ask "Do you take a summer break?" My answer, "YES! Mommy needs a break!" So now that text-book schooling is over for a few months, I wonder what will I do with my time?!?! Sew, Read, Clean, Swim and Teach! Children are always learning and wanting to learn! So I guess technically I do "school" all year, but from May through mid-August we don't open a text book! =) I just enjoy my children, and teach them the love of learning and the many aspects of doing so! I think I will go have a cup of coffee now...oh wait, I think I will have one of my children make it since they LOVE making my cup of coffee!!!
This spring we are in our "baby chick phase of life". Let me start by saying we already have 11 chickens. 10 hens and 1 rooster. We ordered about 6 baby chicks when a friend was wanting to order some. The minimum you have to order is 25 for the safety of the chicks. In the mean time, Steve borrowed an incubator from a friend. He wanted to try to incubate our own eggs. We were doubtful, and I even told the children several times that they probably won't hatch. The temp. has to stay between 99-101 degrees. They need humidity and to be turned 2-3 times a day. We did our best, and low and behold 21 days later they started hatching!!! I couldn't believe it!
We know that some will be roosters and end up in the freezer, but we are so excited to be able to hatch our own chicks now!!!

Come on by and see them sometime!!! And in about 20 weeks we will have more eggs than we know what to do with! The Bailey Familyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04009619447644013822noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8681847032900138090.post-38331334676313845912011-04-02T15:07:00.000-07:002011-04-02T15:07:29.726-07:00Breastfeeding...I never thought anything other than I would breastfeed. I never had problems with it and the babies all did well taking to it. I can't complain about anything! I loved every minute of it and I miss it more than anything else about babyhood! I think it is the BEST thing for baby and Mommy! Did you know you burn up to 600 calories a day breastfeeding full time??? That is huge! Not to mention the benefits that have to do with lowing your chance of cancer. I am a full supporter of breastfeeding!!!
Having said that I think it is inappropriate to have a baby doll that sucks on the breast (they don't even have them yet) of a 5 year old! I think it is odd to have note cards with babies nursing on them. Bumper stickers, t-shirts, etc...really??? Come on! I was never ridiculed, made fun of, told to leave a place, (I even breast fed right in the middle of Neiman Marcus in downtown Chicago) or made to feel uncomfortable. I never breast fed in the bathroom either! I would go to the shoe dept. (they have benches) or a sitting area (most malls and shopping centers have them) and just do my business. No big deal!!! I honestly don't see the push to make breastfeeding illegal or wrong. Most M.D's still suggest it as the best choice for most people.
That is my 2 cents! If you have had a bad experience I am sorry...I had a wonderful experience with all 5 of mine, wouldn't trade it for a second but I also will not be getting a baby doll that breast feeds to my daughters. They can just wait until they have their own babies (and boobs for that matter) and then I will be their biggest fan! =)The Bailey Familyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04009619447644013822noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8681847032900138090.post-17561941402057570562011-02-17T06:34:00.000-08:002011-02-17T06:34:25.612-08:00Sara's Blog for the day.....This week we are experiencing near 70 degree weather!!! After we had 2 degrees last week this is WONDERFUL!!!! When we have lovely spring time weather in Feb. I am again reminded why we live in this beautiful state of Tennessee!!! Yesterday while I was at work someone asked me where I live. I answered that I live in Lobelville...They proceeded to say "I'm sorry" and I then said I'M NOT!!!! I told them we live there by choice! We have lived other places and DECIDED to raise our family here! I love the creeks, the hills, the snow, and the 70 degree weather in Feb! I love that my 13 year old daughter can go to a study on how to be a better wife someday with ladies I trust. I love that my husband can go to work with men that are wholesome and uplifting. I love that my children can go outside and play for hours and I don't worry about them. I love that I live about 4 miles from my children's grandparents who are an important part of their life. I love that I live where I can home-school my children and others do so as well....That is all I have to say about that! :-)The Bailey Familyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04009619447644013822noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8681847032900138090.post-89488851189143487772011-01-03T05:19:00.000-08:002011-01-03T05:19:19.647-08:00Christmas 2010!!!Well here is it...the end of 2010!!! Where did this year go? Here is an overview of what our year was like...

January: We brought in the New Year’s with several couples and had a great time. I turned 32 and continue to work part-time for Perry County EMS as an EMT. I enjoy the work and serving my county in this way.

February: Jacob turned 6 and Isaac turned 11. We celebrated with a party with family and friends.

March: Spring started showing her face here in Tennessee and Isaac started his 3rd season of baseball. He was part of a great team this year and finished 1st place and undefeated!
April: Steve’s brother, Kevin, and his family came for a visit! Bethany turned 8, we had a potluck at church so we celebrated with church family. Steve and I celebrated our 14th wedding anniversary!
May: FLOOD!!!! Tennessee had a 200+ year flood. Nashville was covered and our little Perry County had water everywhere! The creeks and rivers rose to unbelievable levels as people were forced from their homes. Fortunately. we did not get any water in our house, but our driveway was destroyed again. We had an older couple from KS stranded in our little community so we had guests for a couple nights. We were without electricity for 5 days! Tennessee is recovering nicely and you really got to see neighbors helping neighbors and the blessings that comes with that! Steve had a birthday and turned 48. We made a trip to WI for Steve’s niece’s graduation from high school. It was a good trip and wonderful to see family and Wisconsin when it wasn’t covered with snow! J
June: School is out and Summer is here!!! Our 7th year of home schooling is complete! The addition to our “farm” is 30 baby chicks! Creek Time!!! We headed to the creek to cool off just about every afternoon!
July: After 15+ years working construction Steve decided to start a different job. He started working for an online business. That job didn’t work out after just a few weeks, but another door was opened and he is learning the art of computering! J He is also doing odd type jobs for friends and family.
August: We had some friends from Papua New Guinea visit us for the weekend. It was a wonderful time of catching up and fellowship!
We started school again! This year we have a 7th, 6th, 5th, 3rd, and 1st grader.
They are doing wonderfully! Since I work Wednesdays Steve is learning the art of home schooling as well!
September: Shiloh turned 10! We celebrated by taking her to Nashville! We ate out and she finally got her ears pierced! Steve and I went with some friends of ours on a last minute trip to Charleston, SC!
October: Autumn has arrived and it is LOVELY! We took a long weekend and went camping with my sister and her family. The colors that God paints during this season is truly a wonderful sight!
November: Thanksgiving! We are so thankful for all the blessings that God has blessed us with. Our parents are all healthy and doing well. Our siblings are all blessed and our children are growing…both physically and spiritually. Another big event this month is our oldest daughter turned 13! Yes, we have a teenager! Seems so unreal that she has grown so quickly. She is a beautiful girl both inside and out! She is truly growing into a fine young lady and we are extremely proud of her.

December: Steve and I got the chance to go to a Garth Brooks concert. It was a benefit for the flood victims of TN! We then traveled to Wisconsin to spend the Holiday with Steve's family. It was a lovely time! We were there for 7 nights and had parties 5 of them, so it was busy but FUN!!! We thank God for traveling mercies! When we returned to TN, we partied some more with Sara's family. =) Good Times!!!!

Remember during this Christmas time to give Thanks for the blessings we all enjoy daily. Give thanks for a God who cared enough to send His Son on our behalf. Give thanks that God in his mercy and grace accepted His Son as our substitute.
We walked around downtown Franklin, ate a nice little restaurant called The Red Pony and spent the night at a nice hotel suite. We woke up Saturday morning to heavy rains, tornado warnings, and the sound of sirens. We hung around the hotel to see if it was going to let up, which it did NOT. We then headed to the downtown area and went to the Farmers Market. We then went to Kroger and stocked up on groceries and headed home. We were about 3 miles from our exit when the traffic was stopped. Assuming there was an accident we waited for over 2 hours. Come to find out there was flash flood and there was water on the Interstate...AFTER our exit. So we got on the shoulder and got off at the next exit and headed home. The water was indeed over the interstate, crazy enough! We got home unloaded the groceries...all the while it was pouring...and went and picked up our children. The next morning Cane Creek was HIGH and the Buffalo River was blocking the highway as well. At about 8 in the morning the electricity went out too! It was at until Tuesday evening! Meanwhile because the INterstate was closed the HP was sending people down our way to get back on I-40. They didn't know that our road was closed. Well several semi-trucks made it though, or then turned around and headed back towards Centerville, but. . .2 passenger cars and about Semi's were stuck here between high water and a washed out Highway. The local people (who were also w/o electricity, water, etc...) made food for them and we had the older couple from Kansas stay with us. It was quite an experience needless to say!
So, that is it in a nut-shell...something we will remember forever and tell our grandchildren about! The Bailey Familyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04009619447644013822noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8681847032900138090.post-63661005766374210402010-04-15T08:20:00.000-07:002010-04-15T08:20:59.277-07:00Spring...Spring has come quickly here in the beautiful middle Tennessee region! This week has been up into the 80's most everyday. The trees are all green, the dog woods and red buds are bloomed, the daffodils have come and gone. I love Tennessee in the SPRING!

We are putting in a garden this year. We haven't had one in several years and this was the year! We planted 18 tomato plants and 6 flower plants last night. I can't want to have some fresh tomatoes!!! We are also planting okra, peppers, corn, melons, pumpkins, and beans...Most of which are heirloom seeds and can be used again and again!!!
I will post some pictures soon! The Bailey Familyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04009619447644013822noreply@blogger.com0
