~Soap~

I honestly think my life has been changed forever...

Homemade Goatmilk Soap!

A friend of mine makes soap and sells it. I asked her to show me how, and she did! WOW! She also excplained how the chemical process of the fats and lye work to make amazing good for your skin soap.

First I want to mention my history with home made soap. I was raised in an Amish community. I loved it, and still do! There are a couple of negatives about living in Amishville...Outhouses, body odor, and stinky, nasty, no suds home made lye soap! Little did I know that it matters what fats you use, fragrances can be added, and it is actually GOOD for your skin. I learned that in the chemical process, glycerin is formed. In commercial soap it is removed and added to lotions, etc...But in homemade soap it remains. Cool Huh?!?!? It moisturizes your skin so nice! Plus, depending on the oil you use, you can have a nice smooth thick lather! It cleans well and smells GOOD!

So...Moriah and I tried it! It is lovely! I used palm, coconut, and olive oil as my fats. I used goat milk as the base, fragrance, and lye. For 1/2 the batch I also added coffee for a little added exfoliation! One batch made enough for months...

So, I learned my lesson! :) And I can't wait to make another batch!

Day 5-6-7!

So, I got busy and my days got jumbled together! :) Imagine that!

So basicly every day I had a fruit smoothie for breakfast.

Salad or the like for lunch, and meat and veggies for supper. No grains, sugars, rice, pasta, etc..

After a week I didn't feel any different, but I could tell I was digesting things differently.

This was a very gentle cleanse...no "running to the bathroom" moments, etc..It was so nice, that I would like to do it twice a year, as maintenance! Couldn't hurt right???

Anyway...that was my journey!

Enjoy!

My Cleanse....

Long Story...Short...

A couple months ago I hurt my back. Not really my back I guess, more in the area of my left butt or hip. So...after I couldn't do anymore to make it heal I went to the Chiropractor. (Dr. Twist in Hohenwald...he's great) He figured it was the tendon that connects the hip/femur to my pelvis was inflamed. Plan of action??? Chiro twice a week, no running for 2 weeks, no crossing my legs, sit straight, etc...It is getting better.

So...Since I am not running for 2 weeks I thought I might as well do the cleanse I have been wanting to do for a year or so. I haven't made the time because with running I have to be careful of what I eat, carbs, etc...

So the first week I just went Gluten Free. It was pretty easy since I have been doing that for 7 years with Jacob. After a week I feel no difference though. Could be that we had company all week, so all the cooking and cleaning makes me more tired. Could be...

Now, the 2nd week has arrived and I am getting more strict...No sugar, flour, white potatoes, dairy, etc...Just veggies, meat, fruit, seeds and nuts.

Dr. Axe suggested this cleanse. It is a 7 day cleanse.

Day 1:
Mouth Rinse
3 pills
Breakfast: Smoothie (coconut milk, mixed frozen berries, flax seed meal, banana, dates)

Lunch: 3 pillls, Salad (romaine, spinach, tomatoes, cucumbers, grapes, carrots) & grilled chicken with fresh lemon juice and olive oil.

Snack: Banana and raw almonds

Supper: Sauteed green beans, pulled smoked pork, guacamole, and an orange

One hour before bed: 2 scoops of fiber powder.

So that was day 1! Along with 70+ ounces of water....

Shopping...

So today was shopping day. Moriah needed a couple pairs of shorts, Isaac needed jeans and shoes, and WE needed groceries! So to Nashville we went! We went to Trader Joe's first, unfortunately since it was our 1st stop, we couldn't get any perishable items. But we got some other things, including our favorite coffee! If you haven't been to this store, and you live close to one...GO! It is worth it. From there we headed to Franklin w/ a stop in Hobby Lobby to get fabric for 2 girls and 2 boys bags, just to have on hand!  :)  Then Goodwill. Moriah and Isaac don't like Goodwill, they don't like digging through their sizes, etc...Shiloh, Bethany, and I love it. We walked out of there with 3 pairs of pants for Jacob, 2 skirts for Moriah (long denim ones) 1 pair of Levi's for Isaac, a skirt for Shiloh, and a book, all for $23.00. Kohls was next...we ALL love Kohls! So armed with my 20% off EVERYTHING coupon and an additional 5.00 off your total we went shopping...Moriah got a cute long skirt with a matching shirt for an upcoming wedding, Isaac got 2 pair of Levi's for 9.60 a pair...brand new people, plus 20% off! I got a neon running jacket for fall for 20.00, plus some other odds and ends. The only thing we couldn't find is shoes for Isaac. He is in a strange place between boys and men's sizes and styles. Sam's Club then Kroger were next. 400.00 later we are home from a successful day in Nashville. All is quiet b/c the children are at VBS, and Steve is at a meeting, everything is put away, BLT makings are on the counter, and the washing machine is running. It was a good Monday!
